Mexico
takes fifth place in Mayaguez
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 23, 2010 – Mexico defeated Guatemala
in straight sets (25-13, 25-22, 25-11) to conclude in fifth
place of the women’s volleyball tournament at the XXI Central
American and Caribbean Games.
Samantha Bricio, Xitlali Herrera and Claudia Rodriguez each
compiled 11 points for Mexico, who totaled 9 blocks, including 4
by Rodriguez. Guatemalan Diana Arias collected 7 points.
“It was another good experience to participate in these Games,”
Rodriguez said about her fourth time playing in the regional
competition. “It is always source of pride to represent Mexico
and meet players from other countries and see the changes. When
I started participating Dominican Republic was not the kind of
team it is now. I would like to continue playing for my
country.”
“It is the first time we have the chance to participate in the
Central American and Caribbean Games and it has been a beautiful
experience for me and my teammates,” Guatemalan setter Ingrid
Lopez said.
